Joshua Raphaelson (JMJ) : The King of Riddim Production, A sublime music producer

At the recording studio, the big brain behind a successful, perfect and mastering record is the record producer. A record producer oversees and manages the sound recording and production of  performer’s music, which may range from recording one song to recording a lengthy concept album.

A producer has many, varying roles during the recording process. They may gather musical ideas for the project, collaborate with the artists to select cover tunes or original songs by the artist/group, work with artists and help them to improve their songs, lyrics or arrangements.

 

Africa, Ghana to be precise has had a tall list of great music makers and one among them is Joshua Raphaelson, known professionally as JMJ.

Apart from being an undisputed record producer, JMJ is a record owner and through his undevour has helped brought great talents to the limelight. 

Known of his production prowess, JMJ holds the title as the first Ghanaian producer to produce a Riddim which garnered a national and international recognition. 

JMJ produced the first Riddim Album in Ghana in 2009; titled the“Trigger Riddim” which featured songs from artists including Stonebwoy, Samini, Mugeez, Ghetto KB, Iwan and Lingua Kat.

It was after this first Riddim Album that encouraged other Ghanaian producers to also step forward and produce more riddims too. “Xtra Large Riddim” and “Missile Riddim” are also some of the previous Riddim albums produced by JMJ and the current “Riddim of the Gods”.

His contribution to the Ghana music fraternity has been such exceptional and needs a very high commendation. Producing hit singles, EPs, and albums, JMJ has received numerous endorsements from international music producers and music critiques.

Xtra Large entertainment, a record label owned by the aforemention producer, birthed to the Ghanaian music scape a talented dancehall diver, “Kaakie” .

Kaakie ruled her peers at the dancehall genre in Ghana until she decided to halt music for school. 

Hit records from the female dancehall groover such as, Onaapo, DC Turn uP, Koomcha among others hosted the fingers and brains of JMJ. 

JMJ is credited with a befitting legacy as one among the word’s best music producers alive. As record producer, JMJ in his lifetime has groomed, nurtured and brought to light many talents which the Ghanaian music market can boast of. 

Working with talents such Samini, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie among other superstars at the music scape defines his versatility and creativity.

“Riddim of the Gods” a terifyinig project hosted by JMJ having partitions of dancehall, HipHop, Afrobeat and Divas Edition. Since its introduction, the project has garnered enough attention at the Ghanian music scene and has really excavate the taste of music lovers to yearn for more. 

The 2019/2020 project from the astute producer featured top music performers such as Stonebwoy, Jupita, Sarkodie, Samini, Jah Lead, Edem, Fantana, eShun, Efya, Kamelyon, Episode, among others.

Undisputedly, JMJ holds the keys to Riddims  at this side of the world.
